Whom to thank

October 2, 2014 § Leave a comment

Increasing, even in New Church circles, people seem to be thanking the “Universe” for their good fortune. There is, of course, no way to know what these people are thinking or meaning by this expression of gratitude. But, words express ideas, and ideas have consequences.

The universe is created. It has no power to make a person’s life better. If we are religious, should we not be thanking God, the creator of the universe, and being who promotes our welfare and blesses us? And if we are New Church, should we not be thanking the Lord Jesus Christ, the one God of heaven and earth, our savior and redeemer?
